About My Clients
PTSD can develop after you go through a trauma or traumas, such as life-threatening events or sexual assault. People with PTSD relive the trauma in their minds, avoid reminders of the trauma, have more negative thoughts and feelings than before the trauma, and feel keyed up or on edge. Most people feel this way for a few weeks after a trauma; if these feelings persist, you may have PTSD. Therapy can help you heal from past trauma and reduce symptoms of PTSD, depression, anger, and anxiety.
My Background and Approach
I have been using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) in clinical practice and research to treat clients with PTSD for over 15 years. I have experience treating adults with PTSD resulting from a range of trauma types including sexual and physical assault, combat, accidents, medical trauma, and childhood abuse. I am certified as a PE Therapist by the Center for the Treatment & Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania. Approaching trauma-related memories and reminders sounds scary to many people with PTSD. You will always have control over your treatment; the choice of whether to approach any trauma memory or reminder is always up to you. I will serve as your coach and cheerleader as you work to overcome your PTSD. PE requires a strong therapeutic relationship. I prioritize building a safe, trusting environment where you will feel able to confront your past trauma so that you can focus on building the life you want.
