About My Clients

My practice is small and growing. My clients are a mix of various ethnicities and religious denominations. I also have several clients who identify as LGBTQ/non-binary. Although I am a cis-gendered, heterosexual woman, I feel it is very important to be clear that I am an ally and welcome LGBTQ/non-binary persons into my practice. I am treating individuals for depression, anxiety, trauma, insomnia, among other issues.

My Background and Approach

I have always worked in the mental health field. My early years were related to coordination of services for people living with severe and chronic psychiatric illness. I also spent time working in research; these were important years because they taught me how to attend, really listen to an individual relate their story. There is a statistic that physicians interrupt patients within the first 30 seconds of an encounter. I keep that in mind, allowing the patient to express themselves freely. As a psychiatric NP, I am trained in the pharmacologic management of psychiatric illness. I am also trained in therapy and try to address any psychosocial stressors the patient is experiencing, in addition to monitoring responses to pharmacotherapy. In addition to my clinical work, I am also a nursing professor. This work is challenging, yet rewarding as I am helping to produce the next generations of nurse professionals.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Remember that saying about all the important stuff we learned in kindergarten? How to share, play, be respectful, be kind. I think about how I would like to be treated and that's how I move through the world. I have a very strong ecumenical outlook when it comes to religion. I do not see right or wrong. I respect the path a person was born into or selected in order to find their inner peace.
