About My Clients

My clients are people from all walks of life and with all types of concerns. They are people who want to understand themselves better, and they also want to feel better. My clients are the experts in their lives and, with my help, come to know themselves better. My clients deal with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, serious mental illness such as bipolar disorder/schizophrenia, personality disorders, and feelings of suicide. I enjoy connecting and helping each client.

My Background and Approach

Although I have only practiced a short amount of time, through my lived experience and jobs in community mental health, I practice with empathy and understanding of the importance of your story. I use a client-centered approach, which means I do not tell you what you should or should not do, but I support, encourage, and provide tools for you to decide what is best for you. Treating depression and other mental health concerns, we will also work together, with you leading the way, to help in your recovery. I graduated Cum Laude from Roanoke College where I majored in Psychology, minored in Sociology, with a concentration in Human Development. I received my Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. I decided on social work because of its person-in-environment viewpoint. I believe understanding how a person's environment -home, school, work, socioeconomic status, etc - impacts mental health. For individuals in the LGBTQ community this is especially important.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

"Differences are not deficits." I have this quote on my wall at home. I firmly believe that people have a right to be who they are, and should be able to be themselves without fear. I chose Social Work because the social justice aspect really appealed to me. I believe everyone has the right to love who they love, be their true selves, and to live without fear of violence or harm against them because of their race, sexuality, or nationality. I enjoy working with people different from me because I want to know their stories and I want to understand their unique perspective.
