Exposure and Response Prevention therapy is an evidence-based practice for treating anxiety disorders. I have included ERP techniques in my practice for the last 4 years. ERP gradually exposes clients to objects, situations, mental images, or other stimuli (triggers) that induce distress. The result is increased tolerance to uncertainty and distress and a reduction in safety and avoidance behaviors.
I have connected with behavioral therapy since I was in graduate school. CBT skills help clients make behavioral changes that impact their thought patterns and emotional responses. Exposure and Response Prevention falls under the CBT umbrella and is an appropriate treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. CBT has been found to be a highly or moderately effective treatment for anxiety disorders.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an action-oriented approach rooted in CBT. Clients learn to align with their personal values to create and achieve goals using thought defusion techniques and committed action. I have included ACT principles in my practice since 2015.
I specialize in treating anxiety disorders including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Selective Mutism (not including non-speaking autistics), Separation Anxiety, Panic Disorder, OCD, and specific phobias.
I have extensive experience treating individuals with OCD in individual, group, and intensive outpatient treatment programs. I have worked with a variety of OCD themes including contamination, harming obsessions, "just right," scrupulosity, relationship anxiety, order, symmetry, and exactness, intrusive sexual thoughts, perfectionism, disordered eating, postpartum, health anxiety, rituals, checking behaviors, and mental compulsions.
