About My Clients
Shanely works with women to support them with their journeys with motherhood. This includes women considering motherhood, grieving a pregnancy loss, navigating fertility challenges, mental health symptoms during pregnancy or postpartum, birth trauma, or parents on parenting challenges. She is also passionate about supporting women who aren't navigating a motherhood decision yet but want to process their journeys, so if they become mothers, they are equipped to break intergenerational cycles.
My Background and Approach
Shanely is trained in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International, specializing in working with postpartum mood disorders, postpartum anxiety, postpartum OCD, infertility, pregnancy loss, people trying to conceive, and termination for medical reasons. Shanely uses her knowledge of life transitions, intergenerational trauma, immigrant trauma, and cycle breakers to inform her approach. Her focus is primarily around communication, boundaries, attachments, and dysfunctional family systems. She is eclectic in her therapeutic relationship, making sure to always meet the client where they are at. She utilizes evidence based approaches like CBT, DBT and narrative therapy, mindfulness and somatic work based on client needs. She is passionate about social emotional skills and emotional regulation at all ages. She has worked with elementary and middle school students in NYC public schools, supporting adolescents with behavioral, learning, and social-emotional challenges.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a bilingual and Latinx therapist, I am passionate about immigration trauma and conducting therapy in Spanish if it's the client's preferred language. As a first generation American, I am passionate about supporting fellow first generation Americans with navigating the challenges of adulthood and motherhood as a child of immigrants.
