My Background and Approach
It's all about the relationship. As Webb (2017) noted in her book on theology and psychological disorder, "A theology of psychological disorder begins, then, at the cross. It begins with a crucified God who knows our suffering, who knows our distress, and who knows our estrangement” (p. 144). This is the Gospel - that we have a sin problem that is worse then we realized, but that God's love is greater than we could imagine, demonstrated by Jesus's birth, life, death, and resurrection on our behalf (Rom 5). Therapy is designed to walk through life with you - acknowledging the contextual, situational, relational, biological, emotional, and social impact and devastation from sin - but to walk nonetheless, knowing that we have hope in a future with our risen Savior who desires relationship with us and has experienced what we have experienced, and has conquered sin and death (Jer 29:11; Heb 4:15; 1 Cor 15:55-57).
