About My Clients
Many of my clients are looking for ways to better manage emotional problems, improve communication, or gain clarity around life transitions. People I work with include young adults, adults, high-achieving professionals, college/graduate students, LGBTQ+ clients, people living with HIV/HSV, creative professionals, and other therapists/helping professionals. I offer a space to slow down, sort through problems, and find solutions.
My Background and Approach
I always felt a calling from a young age to listen to the stories of others. I come from a Cajun French family where the sharing and telling of stories was an important way to connect and pass time. It was also a way to exchange wisdom and learn from one another. I obtained multiple degrees in psychology, ultimately my doctorate in clinical psychology. Along the way, I trained and worked in various settings such as private practice and college counseling centers. My doctoral research was in HIV prevention and I am a published researcher in the Journal of AIDS Care. I'm a generalist in practice, which means I help people who experience a variety of mental health problems, from anxiety and emotional problems, to self-esteem difficulties and identity exploration. I take a flexible and integrative approach to help me understand your concerns, provide you space to make sense of things, and solutions that meet your specific needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Being human is hard and comes with a lot of stormy weather. There's also so much room for creating a story to that feels calm amidst all of the storms. It is my belief that everything we do, think, and feel makes sense. Whether a person is struggling with anger or anxiety, all emotions come from a valid place. I believe the path towards feeling well is to better understand the sources of our thoughts and feelings, as well as to create new relationships with uncomfortable emotions like shame, guilt, anxiety, and grief.
