About My Clients

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to talk with a counselor? Many people describe the experience as one where they feel accepted, understood, and validated. In all of our lives, there are times when we could benefit from speaking to someone who truly listens, sees us with eyes of compassion, and isn’t interested in criticizing. Perhaps you’re in a time like that now. If so, consider scheduling an appointment with me.

My Background and Approach

The main goal of counseling is to become your own counselor. When someone is their own counselor, they know how they tick, why they think/act the way you do, and how to help themselves in the moment. 3 tools are vital to becoming your own counselor–mindfulness, perspective-taking, and committed action. With mindfulness, one cultivates a non-judgmental awareness of their internal (mental) and external (bodily) experiences. Awareness of one's emotions and actions is the first step toward making a meaningful difference in mental health. Perspective-taking involves taking a step back from one's situation and asking questions about our thoughts. A self-counselor asks, "Is there another way to think about my situation? Why might I consider taking that perspective over my current one?" Committed action means acting in a way that aligns with one's values despite how one may feel in the moment. A major cause of unhappiness is a failure to live according to what one believes is important.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I'm a Christian and my faith informs my values and how I practice. I believe all people are made in the image of God and therefore possess indelible value and worth. I pray with those who request prayer and share Scriptural insights into mental health with those seeking a Christ-centered approach to counseling.
