About My Clients

Life is hard. It's like climbing a mountain in pajamas. I can't climb for you but I can get you better equipped for your journey. Whether your struggles are related to depression, anxiety, existential dread, or difficulty integrating your psychedelic Burning Man vision, I will strive to provide you with perspective, skills, empathy, and laughter. Everybody needs a sherpa some of the time.

My Background and Approach

Mindfulness and humor are the guiding principles in my practice. After the assessment period, I collaborate with clients to establish short-term pragmatic goals. These often coalesce around improving sleep, exercise, nutrition, mindfulness, social connection, peak experiences, and spiritual pursuits. Alongside these behavioral changes we work on changing our relationship to our problems. Humor is an essential intervention. The more we can laugh at ourselves and the craziness of our lives the better we can differentiate our selves from our problems. This "daylight" helps us feel less fused to our issues and more capable of affecting change in our lives. We use classic stand-up comedy and improvisational methods in session. Television, movies, sports, and music provide ample metaphors in session to clarify our own perspectives. Life is hard. Therapy doesn't have to be.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I try to cultivate gratitude in my life. I believe in the interconnectness of all things. I believe that all of humanity is evolving together to something better. I believe in the inherent greatness of a home cooked meal. I believe that if every person in the world skied this winter we could achieve world peace. I believe that mindfulness is probably the safest path to lessening the grip of self that colors most of our interactions. I believe that psychedelic substances may provide a similar clarity and truth but as a licensed MFT I do not encourage my clients to engage in that sort of behavior. I believe that out of darkness comes light. I believe that laughter is sometimes the only freedom we have left. I believe that Shawshank Redemption was robbed of many Oscars in 1995 (but Pulp Fiction was robbed even more).
