About My Clients
Have you noticed that you feel disconnected from others, wanting to hide feeling down, sad, depressed, hopeless, or even numb? Are there times where the things that usually bring you joy - hobbies, activities, friends - start to feel like chores or obligations? Do you ever avoid looking at yourself or engaging with yourself at all? You have a lingering feeling that something is not right, and that's why you are here. Depression wears many faces and is complicated but treatable through therapy.
My Background and Approach
I find passion in helping people discover what gives their life meaning. I typically operate from an interpersonal perspective, highlighting how our relationships with others throughout our lives influence the way we communicate, perceive, and evaluate ourselves, others, and our environments. We typically create modes of thinking and feeling that have served or protected us at some time, but may need to be altered to keep us in an ideal state of being. Many times, we have the tools and knowledge within ourselves, but need a caring, empathic, and understanding guide to rediscover them. I treat therapy as something that is both professional and casual; I believe it is the best place to discover how to have strong and authentic relationships where boundaries and expectations are bilateral, but where we can also lower the pressure and be human.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I find a lot of passion is sociocultural issues, and spent years working in the jail systems with individuals who have suffered under recurrent poverty, lack of resource access, and subsequent incarcerations due to this lack of support. I spend as much free time as I can protesting issues of socioeconomic rights and justice. I have also spent many years working for suicide hotlines and crisis centers and am passionate about providing safe spaces to break the taboo of our death-denying culture and providing spaces for people to feel their emotional pain and all that comes with it, including suicidal ideation. I find the diversity of human experience to be the cornerstone of the world's beauty, and pride myself in working with multiple cultures and belief systems. I operate from a secular perspective, meaning I tailor therapy to beliefs important to you.
