About My Clients
My clients are often navigating their authentic identity after experiencing high-control childhoods, relationships, and institutions. "Who am I outside of those external voices? What do *I* want?" Religious deconstruction, complex PTSD, and navigating non-traditional relationship structures are my focus areas. For individual sessions, we often discuss recovery from narcissistic abuse and loved ones with personality disorders like BPD, but these come up in relationship patterns as well.
My Background and Approach
I was a college educator for 20 years, but became a therapist when I watched my students' mental health crumble during the pandemic. My work is split between couples and individuals, but I see a lot of overlaps. How childhood experiences play out inside us also seeps into our relationships. I love helping clients explore what they need and how to communicate it to others. When I started this work, I saw religious trauma showing up more than I'd expected. Across many different faiths, the pattern of high-control upbringings meant clients had to work harder to hear their own inner voice. I'm here to listen to who you are, outside of what your parents said to you. What the religious institutions taught you. Together, we'll step outside external expectations and discover who you are and what you want your relationships and life to look like. Yes, I have certifications for couples work and trauma and more. But mostly, I'm here to be a safe place for you to be heard and not judged.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'll create a safe space where you can be your true self without fear of judgment. I firmly believe that relationships should be shaped by the people in them, not society's expectations or demands. Love is love, no matter how it looks. I will listen when you're frustrated or angry about societal inequalities, marginalization, and institutional racial systems. They exist and you get to be pissed. I promise to see your humanity.
