About My Clients

My clients tend to struggle with anxiety, depression, and poor self-image. However, they want to create change. While there are often the big picture issues we are working through, often there is more nuance to the issues such as perfectionism or attachment issues causing anxiety; burnout or unresolved trauma causing depression; or frequent conflict with loved ones or body image issues causing low self-esteem. Understanding your unique circumstances is vital to treating your issues effectively.

My Background and Approach

In sessions, clients and I create a balance between processing issues, and then developing coping skills to address concerns. Processing allows us to focus on your experiences, identify patterns, sit with emotions, and clarify how you feel. Sometimes it also feels good just to get thoughts out of your mind within a safe space. While processing can lead to helpful insights and cathartic releases, adding in the skill development piece gives a framework for change to occur. It's my job to propose a skill that I think will help with the issue we are addressing. Then together, we can modify the skill to make sure it's accessible and realistic for you. It is so important that this process is collaborative so you feel empowered to use these skills in your own life and understand the "why" behind it. The skills that we will work on together, are not only backed by research, but have been shown to help people through the clinical work I've done.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that we all deserve support and the opportunity to learn about ourselves free of judgement. This means that I believe therapy should take each person's background, culture, and lived experiences into account. I also don't assume to fully understand your experience, but rather expect that its something we can explore together. I don't believe we live in a world where we are unaffected by our sociopolitical culture, so I welcome clients to explore its influences in therapy as they are getting to fully understand themselves. Connecting and uplifting others has been a priority of mine so that I can be an effective clinician. My time working with AmeriCorps strongly influenced this belief, and therapy has allowed me to connect people from a variety of communities. I am a proponent of Health at Every Size, equity within relationships, and the freedom for individuals to express their identity freely. I also believe therapy should empower you to feel in control of your life.
