About My Clients
The world today can leave us feeling disconnected, full of self-doubt, and questioning where we are headed in life. Everyone seems to have a say as to what we should be doing and how, which only adds to the confusion. You try to fit in but it just doesn't seem to be working. If this sounds like you, I can help!
My Background and Approach
As a therapist I believe that we really do have the answers inside of us, if only we'd stop seeking external permission and acknowledgment from others. When we start to trust ourselves not only are we more in touch with who we are, but we're more confident in our abilities, and have a greater sense of meaning in our lives. It is important that in our work together you feel heard and understood and my goal is to help you uncover and express your authentic self so you can live the life you want. I work from a trauma-focused approach, which means I am well versed in all the ways that our prior life experiences have shaped our present beliefs and behaviors. We can't undo the past, but we can move forward by living a value-focused life. As an art therapist specifically, I believe that art-making on it's own can be healing and restorative. In many ways, creating things is a basic human need and I find that when people feel more at ease about making art, that they feel healthier overall.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in living an authentic life. I think a big part of what causes mental health issues these days is people living in a world where we’re told we have to conform to a certain cookie-cutter approach to life. We are made to believe that if we conform to those constraints, we will live a happy, successful life - we then feel confused, frustrated, and empty when that doesn’t work out. We are left questioning if there is something wrong with us, or whether we messed up somehow. I want to help people find their true self, and learn to treat themselves gently, rather than continue using that internal critical voice we’ve been conditioned to hear all our lives. You are valid, you matter, and its ok to be yourself. That may be a hard thing to believe now, but I know from personal experience that it is possible to get there.
