About My Clients
My clients are on the anxious side, enjoy learning about themselves, and appreciate my direct style. My clients have been to therapists that sat back and nodded their heads but they didn't feel like they got much out of therapy. My clients appreciate my ability to stay calm during chaos. They feel confident that I can handle their shit. My clients are knowledgeable about current events and care deeply about their communities. Many of my clients are not from America.
My Background and Approach
I grew up in rural North Carolina and I know personally the experience of being shunned by an entire community. I embrace being different and fight for those who may be facing the same battle. Families are where it's at for me. I practice Bowenian Family Therapy. Bowen basically believed we needed to learn how to respond rather than react when under stress. We need to grow the fuck up and growth hurts. I teach my clients how to hold onto themselves and not get sucked into the drama. Insight is my deal. If you have awareness about where your thoughts, behaviors, and feelings stem from you can choose to change. I want to rid your tree of root rot rather than just trimming the branches.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in equality for all members of a society. I support the women's movement, Black Lives Matter, DACA, and LGBTQ+ causes. I am aware of my own privilege and try to find ways to better educate myself about groups that I am not considered a member. As a child, I grew up in a rural area in the south and witnessed racial abuses firsthand. That same community persecuted my family for not practicing the same religion. I will never understand what targeted groups go through on a daily basis but I do know my childhood experience fuels my passion for social justice. I currently provide pro bono therapy for Immigrants Rising. I have volunteered in the past for a Rape Crisis Center and have worked with sexual violence survivors in my profession.
