I have an advanced certification in drug and alcohol counseling and I have completed intensive clinical intervention training. I regard as addiction as a maladaptive coping skill that is a symptom of the underlying psychological issues. In order to arrest the maladaptive behaviors one must learn to aknowledge one's emotional experience and learn to tolerate pain.
Consistent with notion that addiction" is a family disease, I recognized the importance need to engaging family members in the recovery process to promote promote better treatment outcomes and sustainable change. In contrast with traditional modalties of care, that tend to focus on addressing the individual that is exhibiting problematic behavior, I embrace the notion that maladaptive behavior is a symptom of a more complex problem within the family system.
I integrated coaching into my practice in 2015 to provide clients with adjunct support to supplement their therapy. Subsequently, I developed a comprehensive outpatient program consisting of counseling, coaching and case management to provide individuals with the necessary support to promote sustainable change and improve treatment outcomes. I supervise a team of coaches and clinicians in my outpatient practice.
