About My Clients
I have been working within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and organizations throughout my career. As a queer person myself, this feels like such a blessing. I also work with folks who identify otherwise. Exploration of intersections of identities is an interest, and I often work with people who are in a place of this kind of exploration. However, it also doesn't need to be the center of our work together. You get to decide if and how often you'd like to talk about it. There is no right or wrong topic.
My Background and Approach
I have been working within queer and gender expansive communities and organizations throughout my career (over 15 years). As a queer person myself, this feels like such a blessing. I also work with folks who don't identify as queer, 2S, trans or nonbinary. I have a focus in providing gender affirming and sexuality inclusive care. In providing therapy, I lean towards unpacking and exploring what is said on the surface. I also have a part of me which likes to strategize. I follow your lead and ask what you are looking for in a given session. If you’re not sure, we’ll decide together what direction to go. I draw upon a variety of approaches including psychodynamic, relational, Internal Family Systems (IFS). I aim to work from a trauma informed, gender affirming and anti-racist framework. This means that I’m thinking about the world we live in and the experiences and relationships in daily life, impacted by the spectrum of privilege, marginalization and personal cultural context.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Therapy is what you make it. And can become a place over time where we can be less alone in holding and exploring the thoughts and emotions that play on repeat, that become overwhelming, and that leave us lingering in unanswered questions. Therapy can become a place to learn more about ourselves, explore who we are, and our relationships. A place to support curiosity within ourselves. It can become a place where over time, we gain new or different perspectives, and where these new perspectives can support us to form ideas and try new things. I believe that understanding ourselves and developing who we are and healing, takes time. In this way, I am in no rush. We go at your pace.
