About My Clients
I help folks work through anxiety in the many ways it manifests and the situations in which it may arise. I specialize in helping folks who are having trouble managing social anxiety, perfectionism, or anxiety across situations including adjusting to life changes and transitions, challenging relationships or communication issues, or navigating a new identity or sense of self. I also understand that these challenges often intersect with one another and can have an impact on self-esteem.
My Background and Approach
I have been a social worker for 8 years working with folks with a wide range of experiences. During that time, I've learned about what issues I specialize in targeting and refining my approach to helping clients. It is part of my framework to start with developing insights and understanding yourself and your experiences. We synthesize this knowledge and then use it toward identifying actions for change. I use CBT, solutions-oriented, and feminist therapy to deconstruct thoughts, feelings, and beliefs and the narratives around who we think we are or think we need to be. My approach aims to help you learn and apply new skills and perspectives and renegotiate your relationship with shame, sense of self-worth, or need to be perfect and anything in between. My goal is to assist you with fostering self-compassion and competence in this world; bridging the gap between the you-now and the you-that-you-want-to-be.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I value creating a safe space for all the folks I work with regardless of someone's identities. I recognize the systems of oppression that are interwoven in United States culture and the implications for mental health. Assisting you on your journey may involve recognizing and deconstructing the impact of institutional oppression and their narratives for various aspects of identity including gender, race, sexual orientation, SAAB, class, ability, body, religion, and many more. If it is important to you for these to be part of our discussions, know this is a safe space to do so. As a therapist and individual I'm committed to creating an affirming and inclusive space. I identify within the LGBTQIA+ community and support identity inclusion and accessibility in all spaces. I also support Black Lives Matter and utilize an intersectional lens to understand the connections among as well as nuances between identities.
