About My Clients

I provide services to clients ranging from age 6 years old and up. Clients typically seek services with me because of specializing in working with children and family systems. I utilize Play Therapy with many of my younger clients as it's vital to treat children through a development perspective. Clients also seek me as a therapist do to my understanding and treatment around domestic violence. Clients are survivors either in current violence or after they have left the relationship.

My Background and Approach

I have both a Masters degree in Counseling and Psychological Services as well as Marriage and Family Therapy. With schooling from 2 different perspectives has brought forth a rich understanding of a person's development and the impact of the systems in which they have exposed to/live in. In addition to my schooling, I have spent the last 20+ years continuing to learn about the impact of trauma on a person's nervous system, development of self and internal messaging. I have training in EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems and AIR Network. All of these trainings have brought different and further understanding of the complexities of working with trauma and stress. My training in regards to children has been focused on Play Therapy and how to utilize children's natural ways to communicate to others their experiences. I am a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor. I am a LMFT supervisor, AAMFT supervisor candidate and LMFT professor at St Mary's University of MN.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Life can bring many challenging events that can cause pain, sadness, anger, self-doubt, confusion, despair and shame. Through therapy, I believe that individuals can develop the ability to gain insight into how these events impacted them as a person and/or their family. Therapy provides space to develop an increased insight into emotions and beliefs. With that then a person and/or family can bring about the changes wanted to live healthier, with hope and greater balance. I work from a non discriminatory stance and yet know that we all have blind spots therefore I am open and appreciative of clients bringing that forth. This allows for a more collaborative approach and that their are 2 experts in the room.
