My Background and Approach
I'm Sarah Cissell, a Licensed Master Social Worker and AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist (CST) — one of a small number in the Ann Arbor area. I specialize in sex therapy, intimacy, polyamory and ethical non-monogamy (ENM), relationship transitions, and sexuality and identity concerns. My approach is client-centered, trauma-informed, and affirming of all relationship structures and identities — including LGBTQIA+ clients, ENM and polyamorous relationships, and kink-aware care. I work with individuals and couples, and welcome multi-partner constellations. In-person in downtown Ann Arbor. Secure telehealth for Michigan clients.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I began my journey working in sexual health education and dating coaching in 2014. I completed my masters of Social Work at the University of Michigan in 2018. I have worked in a variety of settings including the University of Michigan and mental health agencies. I value working in private practice where your treatment can be truly tailored to you. I have specialized training in the fields of sexuality, romantic relationships and fertility/pregnancy related concerns. I hold a certificate from the Sexual Health Certificate Program, Sex Therapy track from the University of Michigan. I am also a DONA trained birth doula (support person for birthing people). I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).
