About My Clients
My clients are interested in doing the deep work that fosters healing from life's difficulties. I enjoy supporting clients who have struggled with addiction (and it's my view that all people who struggle with addiction have experienced trauma in their lives). I've also seen that shame and addiction tend to go hand in hand and have a great deal of experience supporting clients in cultivating self-love and move away from self-hatred.
My Background and Approach
Sarah Buino, LCSW, RDDP, CADC, NMT is a therapist, teacher, educator, and the founder of Head/Heart Therapy, Inc. She is a licensed clinical social worker, certified addictions counselor, and NARM master therapist. She holds a masters degree from Loyola University in Chicago and specializes in shame, substance use disorders, and trauma. She has trained in a variety of therapy modalities including: NARM (neuro-affective relational model), sensorimotor psychotherapy, comprehensive energy psychology, psychodrama/experiential therapy, and shame-resilience. She uses each of these modalities as a framework to support resilience within her clients and create a space for self-knowledge and growth. Over the last decade, Sarah has gained experience in the social work field by supporting adolescents, adults, and families struggling with the difficulties of addiction. In 2014, Head/Heart Therapy was born and it quickly grew to be a successful well-respected group practice in Chicago.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe a lot of things: Black Lives Matter, love is love, spirituality is important, and not every person who uses drugs/alcohol compulsively is an addict. I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community myself. I consider myself a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I spend a great deal of time on my own healing and believe therapists MUST work on their own wounds so they don't carry their own baggage into sessions with clients.
