About My Clients
My clients are people who are ready to make some lasting change in their lives. They often find me because they're going through some kind of big life transition (committing to a long-term relationship, thinking about having kids) and are feeling stressed or torn. I love working with folks who might tend to avoid conflict and are seen as people pleasers, who want to learn to speak up for themselves in relationships. I also specialize in working with survivors of sexual violence.
My Background and Approach
I have an extensive background in working with people who have experienced trauma, especially violence and sexual violence. I am trained in EMDR and this is a very effective treatment for trauma, anxiety, and OCD. We start by learning a lot of grounding and calming techniques to support you through the EMDR process. Then we look at negative beliefs you may have about yourself (Like "I am not safe" or "I am bad") and we look back at what experiences in your life made you believe that. We go through the process of EMDR to help take the power out of those negative beliefs that have been ingrained in you, and replace them with more accurate beliefs so that you can move past those things that happened in the past and live the life you want to live now.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in healing ourselves and each other as the first step toward healing our planet. My intention as a therapist is to guide people toward empowerment and healing in order to live their fullest and most joyful lives possible. I believe that we all have this capacity within us, and therapy can help us to move through our past trauma, oppressive social conditioning, anxieties and other stresses to be our best selves. I know what it's like to feel disconnected from my body and it has been a lifelong process for me to find that connection, so I love using my skills to help others do the same. I volunteered on the Mental Health Team and Burning Man, and I believe we all have a responsibility to each other to work toward social justice and racial justice.
