About My Clients
You might be looking for a therapist because something hurts. It could be a feeling of constant anxiety-racing thoughts, tight muscles, startling easily and worrying about everything. Maybe something intense happened to you or someone in your life and you are struggling to stop thinking about it or experiencing intrusive images out of nowhere, making your world smaller as your try your best to cope. We can work together to get out of survival mode and into your life.
My Background and Approach
I believe in our brain's ability to heal. Before becoming a therapist, I had a life as a forensic specialist who saw all too vividly the impacts of trauma on people. Over the years, I've seen how trauma can be many things...from a shock trauma such as a car accident to ongoing relational trauma like year of rejection by a parent. I work with clients to help discover not only what happened to them, but what we can do to help alleviate their suffering. I am a very relational and friendly therapist; I think it's really important for you to feel safe and seen as a human and sometimes that might include the healing balm of humor. I specialize in EMDR and sprinkle in elements of Internal Family Systems, somatic and mindfulness techniques to help clients get past their past and gain some tools for navigating the future.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a therapist with a social work background so I want to know about your individual struggles, but also how the larger systems we live in are impacting you. That could be your family, your job or society. Speaking of society, how could we not be anxious and unsure right now? There are some things we can't "fix" in therapy, but I hope we can figure out how to cope and increase your ability to tolerate the uncertainty.
