About My Clients

Are depression and anxiety interfering your work, parenting and relationships? Experiences throughout our lives can have a significant impact on how we see ourselves in the world and can contribute to patterns that keep us feeling depressed, anxious and struck. I strive to create a safe space to explore these experiences. We can also discuss strategies for managing school/work/life balance, pregnancy/birth, raising and launching kids, caring for elderly parents, divorce, and retirement.

My Background and Approach

In the 20+ years I have been working as a Social Worker and Therapist, I've worked with children, families and adults who have struggled with a range of mental health issues. I have a Masters in Social Work and have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Focused CBT, to name a few. While all of my training has given me invaluable tools, what feels most important is creating a safe environment and a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients. My relational approach is informed by my interest in attachment. Our own experiences of being parented can contribute to difficulties in our relationships with partners, friends and impacts how we parent our children. Our experiences can also shape the beliefs we have about ourselves, some of which can be negative and even destructive. Exploring and challenging these beliefs is often what helps us overcome barriers, allowing us to find peace and contentment.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

All of my formal training has given me useful tools, however, the training that has been most valuable has been in my personal life. Parenting a child with depression has been been one of the most painful experiences I've had. It's been so humbling and has taught me a lot about myself. It's made me a better therapist. So when I work with parents who are struggling to care for a child with mental health issues, I can say I know what it feels like. I'm not sure how I would have gotten through my own struggles without a strong community (and my dog, George) and I advocate the same for my clients.
