About My Clients
I assist teens who are slower to develop, and left behind in social circles, to boost their self-esteem, perform better in high school, and prepare for college environments. I help parents to identify and support their teen's needs, so they can better reach their maximum potential. My teen-oriented therapeutic style includes dynamic discussions, role-playing, videos, artwork, homework, journaling, and storytelling -- to help my clients define, and reach their goals.
My Background and Approach
As an experienced teen therapist, I can help assess any challenges your adolescent may be experiencing and offer you effective recommendations for solving the problem. Is this problem more complex than just an adolescent phase of life issue? Is educational testing indicated? Is social skills coaching a piece of the puzzle? Would parenting support help turn the situation around? Is referral to a medical doctor or other specialist indicated? As a seasoned professional, I can answer these questions. I specialize in helping emotionally intense teens expand their “window of tolerance” so they are less triggered into states of acute stress, rage, tension, panic and anxiety.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Acting out behavior in most teens reflects an incompatibility between their skills and the demands being placed upon them by their environment. Their Behavior Is Not The Problem. Challenging kids will always look bad when challenged beyond their capacity to respond effectively. We need to see their behavior as a cry for help, and answer that call... Rather than reacting to their behavior, we need to help your teen discover effective ways to respond to challenging situations, and empower them with the social and emotional coping skills necessary to thrive in this world.
