Sandie has experience working with a variety of mental health diagnoses including anxiety, depression, bipolar, borderline personality, and autism spectrum disorder to name a few. In addition to providing evidence based therapy modalities, I can also assist with understanding or advocating for families with children in Special Education with ARD and IEP paperwork.
My Background and Approach
Before entering the counseling field, Sandie was a special education teacher for 9 years where she gained extensive knowledge in best practices for working with individuals with special needs, and the ability to differentiation based on needs of the individual and has a passion for helping to advocate for their needs in different settings. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies as well as her master’s in social work from Texas State University. She completed internships with intensive outpatient group therapy providing CBT, DBT, and psycho-education, as well as working with adults with autism in work settings to help them develop self-advocacy skills. I believe in creating a warm, nurturing environment that helps the client feel they are in safe space and allows for the therapeutic relationship to grow. I also believe that everyone has resiliency and strength built in and with my help be able to tap into that and access it in times of need.
