There are some things that we just cannot change. I use acceptance and mindfulness combined with an action oriented approach to psychotherapy. Clients learn to stop struggling with their inner emotions and instead accept them and move through them. It has been effective at treating workplace stress, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.
When it comes to treating anxiety and depression, CBT is proven to be effective at identifying the distorted thinking that is so common among these disorders. I use a combination of mindfulness and CBT to bring the connection back to your body and challenge all the ways anxiety and depression might twist our thinking.
I use a lot of "in the moment" interventions. I may use psychodrama and role play within the therapy space. Somethings just can't be resolved in just talk therapy and it's important to use experiential modalities to move through stuck points.
As an LMFT, we love to explore the relationships between ourselves and others. I have worked with couples to learn how to communicate and understand each other better. I help couples learn more about their attachment styles and how that impacts the way they show up in relationships and how it relates to the conflict they experience.
I have personal experience with panic disorder and with treating those who experience it as well. I teach ways of coping with anxiety and panic attacks, explore the roots of anxiety, and offer real tools to help manage symptoms and thoughts.
I have worked in substance abuse treatment for 5 years in all levels of care, from detox to outpatient programs. I have spent a lot of time working with families and couples in early recovery. I have helped clients maintain sobriety by address the underlying issues that contribute to their cycle of addiction.
