About My Clients
I have worked in a multitude of settings including a Mental Health Outpatient clinic, a high school and a Supervised Release setting. I have worked with those who range from 6 to 70 years old, of diverse backgrounds and cultures. I strive to be unbiased, and consider my own privilege's in therapy in order to ensure that I am taking in my clients experiences. I want to meet the client where they are at and understand that they are the true expert of their lived experiences.
My Background and Approach
Ever since I had my own therapist in Middle School I knew that I wanted to do the same thing for others. I went to CUNY, Queens College for my bachelors in Psychology where I minored in Peer Counseling , there I learned the fundamentals of a good therapist, someone who is empathetic and engaged, who wants to empower and encourage their clients. After getting my bachelors degree I attended Silberman School of Social Work at CUNY, Hunter College and received my Degree in Masters of Social Work. There I focused my studies on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as I do have the belief that our thoughts can affect our behaviors and therefore our feelings. For example having the negative core belief: "I am worthless" you start to isolate yourself from others and begin to notice depressed moods all due to your perception of yourself. Together we can work on finding your strength and create new more positive affirmations you may find your actions and feelings start to change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I continue to learn everyday as I hope to be a therapist that has many resources for their clients as I understand one modality or approach does not fit all. People are very unique, in ways that they handle stressful situations, symptoms, and disorders much differently then each other. This is also why I strive to dismantle the belief that therapy is only for those who are "really bad" this is a completely untrue. Therapy helps people in many different ways, it should always be a safe space where people can feel heard and understood, not a place where someone will just agree with the client but rather push them to see other perspectives. I believe therapy is for everyone, and its very important to me that a therapist and a client are a good fit. If you are looking for a therapist to be an empathetic open ear, who puts your needs and goals first, who is going to question your negative perspectives, and encourage and motivate you to make changes you may have found a good fit for you.
