About My Clients
My clients are individuals wanting to make change in their lives as they recognize their life and well-being could be improved. They may be motivated for change from the first session, or they may still be ambivalent despite recognizing some benefits of change. For those struggling with addiction, anxiety, trauma and depression, they may be experiencing shame and avoidance - my goal is to help you explore the avoidance so you can begin to move forward.
My Background and Approach
Across the last 15 years, I have worked to hone my skills as a clinician specialized in working with individuals navigating addictive behaviors, including substance use and gambling, and co-occurring mental health concerns. My clinical experience spans a wide range of treatment settings, including detox units, inpatient and residential programs, and outpatient care. These diverse environments have shaped my comprehensive and flexible approach to treatment that enables me to tailor my work with each client based on their needs and presenting concerns.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am passionate about helping people change their relationship with substances and addictive behaviors, process traumatic events/past experiences, and address anxiety (social or generalized) so ultimately, they can lead fulfilling, engaged lives. It is important to me that the therapy I provide is informed by research to ensure the best likelihood of positive outcomes for my clients. When treating addictive behaviors, the family is often overlooked. I offer Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) to help close this gap and am eager to support loved ones on their own journeys of change and growth. I continue to engage in my own research projects and serve as an associate editor for the journal Couple and Family Psychology - Research and Practice. I also serve on oral exam committees for psychologists seeking board certification in addiction psychology so we can continue to ensure clients have access to high-quality therapy for addiction.
