About My Clients
Are you hearing voices, music, or sounds that other people cannot hear? Do you see visions, flashes, blinding light or geometric figures? My Background and Approach
I avoid using labels, unhelpful diagnosis or judgment. I have helped hundreds of people with psychosis overcome their distress and achieve their goals, without shame or stigma. I approach the treatment of psychosis from a person centered, recovery oriented perspective. I do not believe that you are sick, wrong, or bad. And I will work to help you achieve your goals while maintaining your sense of yourself and personal identity.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
At NYC CBTp we take a normalizing approach to psychosis. I believe strongly that the beliefs and experiences commonly regarded as symptoms of psychosis are in fact highly understandable reactions to life events such as trauma, rather than a medical or biological condition requiring treatment solely with medication or hospitalization. In the US this often means that people experiencing psychosis have also often been through injustice, discrimination or segregation. I am firmly committed to reducing the stigma associated with these unusual experiences and to offering people access to evidence based treatments in a private practice setting, as a way of reducing this discrimination.
