About My Clients
My clients are individuals who are committed to personal growth and healing. They are interested in gaining insight and understanding about their past experiences and how those experiences influence them today. My clients want to heal from past trauma and distress. They want to change unhelpful patterns of thoughts and behaviors in order to have healthy relationships and a healthy life.
My Background and Approach
I am an LCSW and LAC with over 10 years of clinical practice. I am compassionate and empathetic and believe that connection is a primary ingredient for therapeutic healing. As someone who has been judged herself, I know how important it is to have someone be open, understanding and non-judgmental. When I first start working with individuals, I often tell them two things: 1) make sure whomever you work with feels like a good fit for you; 2) if you feel judged, look for another therapist. From my perspective, the only way therapy will work is if someone feels heard, seen and accepted - connected. So, if any of these feel like they're missing when we meet, I am likely not the right fit for you. My primary therapeutic approaches include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Attachment Theory.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I consider myself to be an advocate and activist to the core. This is why I chose to go into clinical social work over other counseling professions. I have participated in a lot of protests and movements over the years including anti-war protests (Iraq/Afghanistan), women's equality marches, pro-choice marches/rallies, BLM rallies. I am a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and consider myself a stanch Feminist. Although I am not practicing any faith, the Universalist and Unitarian church speaks to me most because of their progressive, community oriented philosophy.
