About My Clients
My clients are diverse in identity, life stage, and the challenges they face. Some are in couples and wanting support communicating (and arguing) more effectively with their partner. Others are in their 20s and figuring out who they want to be in this world. Some clients are experiencing the dynamic process of grief. Many have experienced trauma of some kind, sometimes sexual, sometimes emotional, sometimes from an event and sometimes from a lifetime. They all are looking for something to shift.
My Background and Approach
While many approaches inform how I do my work, philosophically I am oriented towards a Humanistic/Gestalt approach. This approach emphasizes present moment awareness which helps to build connections between mind, body, emotions and spirit. It also views the client as the expert in their own experience, places a strong value on subjectivity, and invites play and experimentation. I also see the therapy I offer as transpersonal. Soul and spirit show up everywhere: in grief and mourning, in sex and sexuality, in activism and in inner peace. I’m interested in exploring the question: what makes you come alive? What activities or experiences titillate and stimulate your liveliness and which activities mute it? Inside each of us is wisdom. Sometimes we need to peel back some layers to access it.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe we are at our healthiest when all of our internal parts can have a voice. If you're unfamiliar with "parts" language, I am referring the variety of wants, needs, emotional experiences and thoughts we have in our psyches at any given time (you may notice a self-critical part, a needy part, a protective part, an ambitious part etc). Often these parts are in conflict with one another making us feel stuck. And sometimes we don't even realize how some parts have been supported to grow by society and our families while others have been shunned and locked up inside of us. I love supporting my clients to create an atmosphere of openness and sharing between their parts. When we do this, I find that clients experience relief, self understanding and self-compassion. This leads to the cultivation of a grounded and authentic 'self' who is able to live up to their full potential and experience meaningful relationships.
