About My Clients
I consider multicultural systems and identities in my framework for treating adolescent (13+ in NJ and 14+ in PA) and adult clients within the contexts that matter most to them. I have specialized interests in serving clients who identify as racial minorities; LGBTQIA+ identifying clients and women. I also have a specialized interest in serving multiracial/multiethnic identifying clients. I have vast experiences working with college and graduate students and doctoral candidates.
My Background and Approach
I utilize a trauma-informed lens to help hold space for what has happened to you, rather than "what is wrong with you." With that lens always in mind, I pay close attention to your needs as an individual client- to tailor my eclectic approach to your authentic goals. I select appropriate, evidence-based modalities, based on your lived experiences and identities, rather than assuming a one size fits all approach will work for everyone. When starting out in therapy, our focus will be on developing a therapeutic relationship based on trust. I approach sessions with empathy in a nonjudgmental space where you may ask yourself, "What do I want from this experience?" I can support you through addressing current/past hurt and be present with you as emotions come up. I will be with you as you explore the internalized narratives that influence your functioning and wellbeing. I believe therapy should be an empowering process, in which your strengths are highlighted!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
With all of my clients, I aim to co-create identity affirming spaces in which they can feel seen and heard in the ways that feel most important to them. I socially locate as a biracial, bisexual/queer woman and member of the Latine community. I believe that members of marginalized communities tend to experience mental health challenges that are informed by internalized isms and phobias. Societal expectations around "normative" standards can contribute to self-doubt and isolation, and experiences of oppression can exacerbate depression and anxiety. I support folks in unlearning internalized racism; sexism and misogyny; homophobia and fatphobia. I also offer support around unlearning religious shame as it pertains to sex and sexuality.
