About My Clients
My clients are professionals who look capable and put-together from the outside. Inside, there's a persistent feeling of not being enough, no matter what they've accomplished. They've often tried to think their way out of it and are frustrated that understanding the problem hasn't been enough to change it. They come in for anxiety, imposter syndrome, trauma, and grief, and they want something to actually shift, not just better ways to live with it.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 10 years of experience in behavioral health. I hold Level 2 IFS training through the IFS Institute and grief training through the Columbia Center for Prolonged Grief. I also completed advanced training in complex trauma and somatic approaches, which deepened my understanding of how trauma lives in the body and what it takes to work with it effectively. My clinical background spans outpatient therapy, crisis work, drug treatment, and community mental health, which gave me a deep understanding of what it takes to sit with people carrying serious weight. Today I work primarily with professionals navigating anxiety, imposter syndrome, trauma, and grief using Internal Family Systems as my primary modality. IFS gets to what is actually driving the patterns rather than teaching better ways to manage them.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe we all have the capacity to change, and I also believe there are real reasons why change is hard. The parts of us that resist change aren't obstacles. They developed for reasons and deserve to be understood rather than overridden. I came to this work through my own experience with depression and anxiety, and years of my own therapy. That path taught me that the right framework changes everything. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and have worked with clients across a wide range of identities and backgrounds throughout my career. Outside the office I spend time with my wife and our dog, play video games, tinker with a 3D printer, and travel to Japan when I can. You can learn more about working with me at ryanthurwachter.com.
