About My Clients
Most of us are trying to rid ourselves of our anxiety by avoiding frightening situations and shielding ourselves from uncomfortable experiences. In doing so, our existence often becomes narrow and tedious. But what if we could learn to make room for the inevitable pains that life confronts us with and accept the experiences we cannot control. If we can become more psychologically flexible, we can then be present and do what matters most to us.
My Background and Approach
My undergraduate studies were at the University of Southern California, where I received a degree in Social Science with an emphasis in psychology and a minor in photography. I later attended the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco for my doctorate in clinical psychology. Over the last five years, I've worked at the Psychological Care and Healing Center in Los Angeles, focusing on OCD and other severe anxiety disorders in a residential setting. In our sessions, your values and goals will dictate the tools and interventions I employ. I am not here to tell you how to live, but help you identify and pursue the life you want to live. I believe strongly that therapy should be experiential, because it can allow for learning and growth that words struggle to capture.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I utilize a collaborative approach with my clients and seek to improve their quality of life and establish a balance between work and play. I value the human connection and embrace both the art and science of therapy. In working together, you can expect to develop insights and learn ways of initiating and sustaining change. I place great emphasis on developing a trusting therapeutic relationship that fosters emotional growth. As the son of Argentinian immigrants, I have developed a keen interest in issues of acculturation and intergenerational conflict. I also speak Spanish and have experience conducting therapy in both languages. My therapeutic approach is integrative and draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have found mindfulness-based interventions to be helpful in addressing clients with anxiety disorders and psychosomatic manifestations (interaction of mind and body).
