About My Clients
Many of my clients look capable on the outside but feel stuck, disconnected, anxious, or overwhelmed inside. I work with adults navigating relationship struggles, trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and questions of identity or purpose. I also work with couples caught in painful cycles of conflict or distance who want to feel close again. I especially enjoy working with men who may be new to therapy or aren't sure where to begin. Faith can be integrated when it's meaningful to you.
My Background and Approach
My approach is warm, collaborative, and engaged. I don't believe therapy should feel like you're talking while someone silently takes notes. We'll slow things down, get curious about what's happening beneath the surface, and work together to understand the patterns that developed to protect you but may no longer be serving you. I primarily draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT/EFIT), with additional tools from ACT, CBT, and other evidence-based approaches. With couples, I focus less on deciding who's right and more on understanding the cycle you get caught in and the deeper needs and emotions underneath it. Before becoming a counselor, I spent 20 years in pastoral ministry. That experience shaped my appreciation for people's stories, relationships, values, and questions of meaning. I welcome clients from all backgrounds. For those who want it, I'm also comfortable thoughtfully integrating Christian faith or spirituality into therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Relationships, family, faith, curiosity, and compassion are important to me. I spent many years in pastoral ministry before becoming a counselor. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for the complexity of people's stories—including the ways faith can be a source of meaning and hope as well as hurt or struggle. I believe people make the most sense when we understand their experiences rather than simply judging their behaviors. I'm drawn to therapy that approaches even the parts of ourselves we don't particularly like with curiosity and compassion. Outside the counseling room, I'm a husband and dad of three. I enjoy spending time with family, boating, road trips, and coaching youth soccer. I value humor and authenticity, and those tend to find their way into my work as well. Clients of all backgrounds and beliefs are welcome in my practice. If faith or spirituality is important to you, I'm comfortable discussing it; if it isn't, it doesn't need to be part of our work.
