About My Clients
My clients come from diverse backgrounds & from different walks of life. My goal is to be a mirror through which clients can learn about themselves both internally & externally. I have experience providing counseling for life transitions, acculturation and enculturation difficulties, marital and family conflicts, domestic abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder & ongoing traumatic stress, anxiety disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, stress management, & chronic pain management.
My Background and Approach
First and foremost, it is important that I be able to provide a compassionate, safe, and non-judgmental space in counseling where clients feel that their stories, experiences, thoughts, and feelings are respected and validated, and where I can work with my clients to place together the puzzle pieces of their lives. To this end, I cater my therapeutic approach based on my clients needs, but I tend to begin from a place of inquisition and curiosity. While I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Person Centered therapy as my core therapeutic methods, I borrow from different approaches, including Existentialism, Positive Psychology, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and others. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, as well as other bilateral stimulation protocols for early intervention, and ongoing traumatic stress.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Justice is a very important value I hold, and one that I believe plays a role in most peoples lives. We all inherently have a need to feel that we have been treated humanely, fairly, and justly. In the absence of justice, which can take on different meanings for different people, we can be left feeling disregarded, wronged, and helpless. And in the absence of a place to have our experiences validated, injustice can lead to resentment. I find it important to both validate my clients experiences of injustice, and to also explore ways in which they feel they can heal from said experiences, whether that is through advocating for their rights, or through healing past wounds. In all cases, the goal is for clients to reach a place where they feel empowered, and where they feel they have the tools to stand up to injustice wherever they may be in life.
