About My Clients
I love to work with fellow queer and trans people, as well as disabled and chronically ill communities, caregivers, and people who want to explore body acceptance/fat liberation. I also welcome clients who are Covid-conscious; I wear an N95 mask during all in-person appointments and run a HEPA air filter in my office to reduce risk. I see adults of all ages. If you are anywhere along the journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance, you will find a supportive space in my office.
My Background and Approach
My background is in community-based mental health, including first-episode psychosis recovery and in-home therapy. I combine elements of different modalities and theories to best suit each individual with whom I work, including ACT, CBT, psychodynamic therapy, polyvagal theory, mindfulness, and family systems theory. Currently, I am practicing under a temporary graduate-level social work license while I wait for my long-term LGSW (licensed graduate social worker) license to arrive now that I have completed my Master of Social Work through the University of Iowa. I practice under the supervision of Sue Rau, LICSW, here at Virta.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My queer and trans identities are deeply important to me, and they have a strong influence on my therapeutic approach. I am committed to movements such as disability rights and fat liberation from within these communities, and I also strive to be a good ally in efforts toward anti-racism and support for unhoused people in my community. These commitments and values are connected to my decision to be openly COVID-conscious in my therapy practice. Within the world of mental health care, I believe in the importance of maintaining an open-minded and caring approach, valuing individuals' autonomy in making care decisions for themselves, and being aware of social, environmental, and political forces that shape our mental health.
