About My Clients
Are the coping skills you are using not working? Are you constantly worrying or feeling sad or overwhelmed? Is there just not enough time in the day to get things done? Do you use food, substances, or shopping as a way to cope? I know exactly what you are feeling! I have experienced these things myself and with the help of a therapist, I learned healthier coping skills and now live a happier more balanced life. Together we can figure out what coping skills would work better for you.
My Background and Approach
I have been working as a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, past trauma, life transitions, divorce, loss or who have difficulty finding a balance between their work and personal life. I can help you identify and challenge the thoughts and behaviors which cause you emotional pain. I will help you learn and become more aware of how your thoughts make you feel and what you can do to deal with these thoughts and feelings. I will guide you and support you to create and practice skills, such as deep breathing, being present, relaxation, journaling and movement. I will help you identify and cultivate interests and activities which bring you joy, balance, calm and more satisfaction in your relationship with others and your life. If you are open and willing to take suggestions, be gently challenged and practice the skills suggested in and out of sessions, you will have greater success and feel better.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe everyone can change, improve and grow. Life as we know it today is much faster, more demanding and alway changing. A sense of safety in the world has been compromised by many events and the ongoing growth of technology and social media. I believe it is very important to practice better ways to be present in life, cope and manage the stress and unpredictability of life. I believe it is important to hold myself accountable for my actions and how I treat other people. A wise friend of mine once said "Never underestimate the effect that my behavior has on other people." My actions and behaviors also effect how I feel about myself. If I practice compassion, loving kindness and respect for all people, I feel more comfortable and satisfied with myself and my life. I have been active in volunteering in my community at homeless shelters, suicide prevention fundraising and donating blood. I practice gratitude daily and am blessed to have a very supportive and spiritual community.
