My counseling style is warm, person centered, and solution focused. Whether you are looking for a marriage tune up, help dealing with grief, wrestling with the pain of trauma or simply need a kind ear to listen, I would love nothing more than to assist you in reaching your therapeutic goals.
My Background and Approach
I am a marriage and family therapist licensed in North Carolina, Hawaii, Florida, and Washington, with over 15 years of counseling experience, in and out of the military. I am a combat veteran, serving over 25 years as both an enlisted soldier and an active-duty Army Chaplain. I am also an ordained minister with 20 years of vocational ministry experience. My doctorate and area of expertise is in spiritual resilience through difficult life circumstances. Clinical Approaches: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Existential Therapy, Gottman Method, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that most people who seek therapy are simply emotionally, relationally, or spiritually stuck. They aren't sick, broken, or damaged goods. For this reason, I am not quick to diagnosis or label someone. Most people hold within themselves the answers to getting unstuck. For that reason, a healthy dose of my therapeutic practice is reflective listening. In addition to creating a safe place for people to share their stories and hear their own thoughts, my second role as a therapist is to provide people with the right tools to navigate themselves out of what ever has them stuck.
