Motivational interviewing is an empathetic and collaborative style of counseling. By asking open-ended, nonjudgmental questions, I support my clients and allow them to figure out why behaviors may present barriers to their goals and what they can do to change. The five key principles include expressing empathy, developing discrepancy, avoiding arguments and support self-efficacy and optimism.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. This approach is often appealing to individuals who desire to focus on the present and move forward in a solution-oriented manner.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a short-term form of behavioral treatment. It helps people problem-solve. CBT also reveals the relationship between beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and the behaviors that follow. CBT is an evidence-based approach that pairs well with practices that offer opportunities to introduce helpful thoughts and beliefs that support goal attainment.
