My Background and Approach
I use ACT, DBT & CBT to guide clients on how to regulate their emotions and improve their mindset. I combine somatic strategies with cognitive restructuring to help clients gain holistic wellness. As a registered play therapist, I use art, games and toys to help kids express themselves in a comfortable way. I utilize different structured activities to help children and teens learn tools for executive functioning, emotional regulation and interpersonal skills. I am an EMDR certified therapist which means I use a trauma informed lens to help clients understand their behaviors and fears. I utilize EMDR to help clients manage their symptoms in a way that engages brain and body connection. As a Christian, I can integrate Christian faith into the sessions if client prefers.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that healing involves addressing different aspects of wellness such as mental, emotional, spiritual, physical and relational. I incorporate trauma informed practices in my sessions because I am aware that a history of experiencing distressing events play a huge part in how people respond in the present. I include thought restructuring in my treatment as it is very powerful in shaping a person's feelings and behaviors. I also encourage clients to identify their strengths and highlight this in our work of building coping strategies. I intuitively work from a Christian worldview but can work well with others who have different views.
