Anxiety can cause us a tremendous amount of discomfort that leaves us feeling restless, irritable and stuck. Anxiety is often future thinking where we worry and become preoccupied with uncertainty and fear of the unknown. We also experience anxiety in our bodies that can be equally distressing. Together we will work to find tangible coping tools and skills to better manage anxiety with a mindful focus of being more present and aware of our own cues and triggers.

Alcohol and drug use can be extremely isolating and can often leave us feeling defeated, ashamed, hopeless and desperate. The cycle of addiction and alcohol use is often tough to break even when we are attempting to do our best to manage and maintain. I work with clients in the recovery and 12-step community to best support them and build new adaptive and health habits and patterns of behavior. I also work with clients in treatment settings and have personal experience of what dependency is.

Attachment theory is way for us to understand our patterns, traits, behaviors and developmental experiences and how they impact us from a relational perspective today. We examine attachment styles to better understand how we relate to partners, family, and even friends, which gives us the ability change things we would like to do differently or improve.

CBT is an efficacy based model that allows us to examine how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are often connected. Common tools we utilize are looking at core beliefs and our assumptions about the world to challenge thinking patterns and better understand our own patterns of behaviors. I also incorporate aspects of mindfulness to create tools and skills to notice patterns.

Psychodynamic therapy involves examining and bringing into awareness our mental and emotional processes. Through our experiences and development, we form patterns and beliefs over time that influence and shape how we think, feel, act, and relate to others. The aim is to gain insight and interpret where some of our psychological processes and defenses come from so we can better understand ourselves and reduce distress or symptoms ailing us to improve our lives.

Transitions can often mark a new chapter that can be exciting and refreshing but can also feel unexpected causing stress, fear, or sadness. I specialize in working with people who are trying to better understand themselves, patterns, relationships and have struggled with things like anxiety, depression, substance use and drinking, family, stages of life and uncertainty with the future as they navigate life events and in an effort to best adapt during these transition periods.

Mindfulness is an effective way to bring into our awareness our own patterns, thoughts, and behaviors that take us out of the present moment. Mindfulness tools are practices we incorporate over time where we are able to better notice and recognize how we experience ourselves and the world in an effort to regulate, center ourselves and create space and balance. We do this in a compassionate and non-judgmental way to foster positive growth and change without getting stuck in the past or future.

Issues that arise in relationships inform us about how we relate to others and give us an opportunity to explore where our patterns, traits and behaviors come from. Key components in navigating relational issues are assessing our own emotional depth and tolerance, how to set healthy boundaries and advocate for our own needs, learn effective communications skills, and how to support each other in healthy ways through relational equity and compromise rather than sacrifice and harbored resentment.
