About My Clients

I treat individuals of a variety of needs in English and Spanish, proficient in both. I use evidenced based practice approaches i.e. CBT, DBT, person centered therapy, EMDR for those with PTSD diagnosis from adolescents, young to older adults (20 to 65+), senior citizens. If a family caregiver requests their child ages 10-15 to participate, they must be accompanied by parent for 1st session. I prepare ahead of time to maximize care for each patient, individualize a treatment care plan.

My Background and Approach

Since 2003, for 17 years, I had started in-person group and individual sessions for court mandated, diagnosed with substance abuse diagnosis at actual outpatient care facilities from Commerce City, Aurora and Denver, CO. After March 2020, following COVID pandemic, I had and since serve remote telehealth, to accommodate, protect those with infectious illness (COVID, seasonal flu). Sometimes, I value reading periodic journals, literature to enhance preparation for each client, active listening through note taking, ask open ended questions to maximize quality of care, decipher prevalence of symptoms and guide client to identify a treatment care plan with attainable goals. Utilize DSM-5 to reach a diagnosis and apply interventions to address symptoms, process trauma, and modify dysfunctional behavior and reaffirm strengths in each client. Value identifying healthy ways to cope in response to triggers. Offer comprehensive mental health evaluations, write treatment recommendations.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have completed training in multi-cultural diversity and awareness of those with varying backgrounds, value the LGBT-Q and neuro-divergent community (autism spectrum), etc. I have a Master's in Educational Psychology with concentration in special education. I value individuals with learning needs, disabilities, and unique learning curves. I value honoring child's developmental milestones (abstract, concrete reasoning, empathy) and how those evolve across one's lifetime into adulthood. Believer in Jean Piaget's child psychology, Kohlberg's 4 stages of grief and loss. I grew up 8 years in Lima (Miraflores), Peru until age 10, and appreciate Latino population as a bi-cultural Hispanic and American citizen of Peruvian descent. I grew up, and attended Catholic private schools but accept others with a wide range of beliefs, cultural backgrounds. I value when necessary collaborating with the patient's psychiatrist , or other providers if applicable. I do not prescribe medication.
