The modern world makes us run very fast. It creates anxiety. We follow false gods like materialism, greed, getting over on others. etc. But most of our anxiety is that we are all hopelessly wounded from our childhood, then at 18 y/o we are supposed to emancipate and successfully negotiate a very busy world. We often don't think things through, we just start reacting. If we got some help, then we move from a re-active life to a pro-active life. That is a very different way of being in the world.

This kind of therapy assumes that any addiction is a secondary diagnosis. The addiction is a way of self-medicating, meaning there is emotional pain underneath it. so if u stop the addiction, then the emotional material under it will be assessable, if the person is in therapy. Igf they are not, then it is most likely a new addiction will form to take the place of the previous one.

Fritz Pearls defined neurosis as "The inability to see the obvious". He was the founding Father of Gestalt therapy, which is a depth psychology. Clients turn their gaze inwardly and release "incomplete Gestalten", or wounded inner material. Since we are all multidimensional, we must clear out each level we encounter. These wounds are just contracted energy being held in the body. As we do this, we become more whole. Our heart opens up and we become the person we truly are.

Depth therapies are primarily concerned with healing the wounds from both childhood and early childhood (pre-verbal). It is assumed this is where the wounds began, mainly from 0-5 y/o. After that, we just keep repeating this wounded way of being. Depth therapy helps the client regress into childhood and release this contracted energy, so we can develop naturally into the person we were meant to be.
