About My Clients
Adjusting to new cultures as an immigrant, starting a new career as the only queer person in your company, learning how to navigate spaces of affluence as a new university student from a working-class background, and similar circumstances can be some of our most challenging life experiences, especially when our ability to cope and adjust is limited by trauma. A therapeutic approach that centers your cultural and material realities can help you overcome and build resilience.
My Background and Approach
Over the past 5 years I have built on my commitment to to further social justice as a clinical social worker by cultivating a therapeutic approach that incorporates several evidenced-based therapeutic modalities that aim to center my client's experiences and identities and facilitate healing and building resilience. I use modalities such as Liberation Health Social Work, Narrative Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, Existential Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychodynamic approaches in an eclectic way to meet my clients where they are at and facilitate healing and trauma processing in a way that honors their right to self-determination and centers them as the experts on their own lives. I also use an adaptive and collaborative approach to treatment planning that ensures you are in charge of your own care.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I view my work as a social worker and my treatment approach as an extension of my dedication to furthering social justice and equality for all people. My spiritual and political worldviews that all things are deeply connected and that all of our liberations are bound together inform my belief that to support another's healing is to support my own healing and communal healing. I am guided by values of antihierarchy, mutual aid, community, restorative justice, self determination, and voluntary cooperation. I believe that all trauma is about power and control and inherently political. To that end, I aim to create a therapeutic space guided by these values where my client and myself can be equals working towards their healing. I also acknowledge inherent power imbalances that exist in a therapeutic relationship due to legal and ethical requirements of mandated reporting, and use an enhanced informed consent model to guarantee my clients are able to fully engage in voluntary cooperation.
