About My Clients
I work best with thoughtful, capable people who may be doing well on the outside while knowing something important is not working inside. My clients often come with anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, loss, life transitions, or recurring patterns they understand but cannot seem to change. I offer an active, thoughtful approach that looks beneath symptoms, with room for depth, directness, warmth, and humor.
My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy has been shaped by more than three decades of clinical practice, teaching, and the study of human development. I earned my graduate degree from Harvard University and later taught graduate psychology at Rutgers University. Alongside my clinical work, I have spent over thirty years studying meditation and attachment theory, including advanced training with the late Daniel P. Brown, Ph.D., and research contributions to Attachment Disturbances in Adults. In therapy, I am interested not only in relieving symptoms but in understanding the patterns that organize a person's experience. Many of the ways we struggle today began as intelligent adaptations earlier in life. Together, we explore how those patterns developed, why they persist, and what allows genuine, lasting change. My style is active, collaborative, and conversational. I value curiosity, careful listening, warmth, and humor, and strive to create space where people feel understood and challenged to grow.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that psychotherapy is most effective when it is grounded in respect, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to understanding another person's experience. My role is not to tell clients what they should believe or how they should live, but to help them better understand themselves, clarify what matters most to them, and make choices that are consistent with their own values and aspirations. I welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, identities, and spiritual or philosophical traditions. My office is intended to be a place where people can think openly, ask difficult questions, and explore deeply held assumptions without fear of judgment or pressure to adopt any particular viewpoint. I see therapy as a collaborative process. Together we work to understand the patterns that shape your life, strengthen your capacity to respond thoughtfully rather than react automatically, and help you build a life that feels more authentic, connected, and satisfying.
