About My Clients

My clients work with me collaboratively on a wide range of issues including those associated with gender questioning, fluidity, and transition. I take a strength-focused approach and firmly ascribe to the idea that helping clients find out what works in their lives is the key to helping them discover how to contend with the issues that are causing them difficulty. This means that I work to maintain and enhance client dignity, confidence, autonomy, and empowerment as they move toward wellness.

My Background and Approach

I take an eclectic approach that is strength and solution-focused, allowing clients to work in the "here and now" on issues that are impeding their growth and happiness. That said, I also help clients delve into deeper, insight-oriented topics that allow for the expression and understanding of history and tough emotions. Generally, my work entails a combination of both emotion-based work and cognitive-behavioral techniques. I work hard to ensure that the treatment is matching the client, instead of hammering a client into my idea of how the world works. The point of therapy, in my opinion, is to help a client how they understand themselves and the world, what they believe about change and growth, and how we can work together to allow a process of healing, empowerment and health to begin and thrive.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I firmly believe that there is no difference between providing mental health services and social justice causes. They are one in the same. I am a life-long liberal, very in tune with progressive causes and active in my community politically, professionally, and personally to these ends. Distressed by today's current political environment, I still see many avenues of hope and aspiration amongst those fighting for social justice, including me. I have written many opinion pieces in major newspapers that extol the virtues of social justice and professionally have worked with large numbers of people from the LGBTQ+ population, including aiding numerous clients through gender transitions. I consider it an honor and privilege to be considered in ally by the LGBTQ+ community.

I offer online counseling in the following states:
