I have worked with couples for over fifteen years. My theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative. I also use Emotionally Focused Therapy in order for each partner see the emotional reaction to the sometimes negative choices they make.
My practice is called Secure Connections Counseling because I base my work on helping people connect with others in an emotionally mature way. Because of some of the things that have happened to people in their family of origins; such as parents not giving physical comfort, not listening or engaging with their children in conversation, responding in negative personal attacks to mistakes, showing a lack of interest in their lives and not being emotionally available, a lack of security results.
Many people have what's called irrational thoughts, mostly because of the way they were raised. Many of these thoughts result in the way they were taught to view life, and the the negative actions of caregivers. I help people recognize what they are and how to look at life differently, dismissing those beliefs that are not healthy.
