About My Clients
While I can work with veterans and first responders from an informed and experienced perspective, I have had the most success with those in their late teens on up working in areas from general mental health to more specialized needs in areas of trauma, vocational counseling, and addiction issues.
My Background and Approach
I follow a CBT approach to most issues with some other evidence-based tools borrowed from other modalities as needed. I have certifications in trauma treatment and assessment and extensive experience working with addiction. Treatment goals are collaborative, not dictated. You know what you want, role is to help you get there. I see therapy as a skills building relationship designed to enable you to adapt tools developed in session to emerging life issues. My goal is to help you to begin improving your life today.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I've always been in a helping profession throughout my life, first as a Marine, then in law enforcement. After seeing first-hand that therapy works with the right clinician, I needed to know how. I completed my graduate work in mental health counseling with a focus in trauma as this is was the catalyst to my move into becoming a therapist. I have worked in substance abuse inpatient and outpatient settings with a focus on identification and treatment of underlying mental health concerns. Having had the opportunity to work with a wide range of disorders in a diverse population has given me insight into the effectiveness of a collaborative approach to treatment. Having had a significant amount of real-world experience and having completed certification specific to trauma therapy modalities allows me to work with a wide range of issues.
