About My Clients

The world is a bit nuts. And sometimes, it’s not you — it’s them. But if it is you, maybe it’s not the world itself but how you relate to it. Or maybe it’s a sleepless night that turned into a sleepless month. Either way, that pain is real: the self-doubt, the anxiety, the insomnia, the feeling that you’re adrift while everyone else has it figured out.

My Background and Approach

I specialize in sleep and insomnia, anxiety, and men’s wellbeing. I’m trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) under one of the field’s leading experts, and I’m pursuing my Diplomate in Behavioral Sleep Medicine. If your nights are broken and it’s dragging down everything else, this is what I do. I also work with young men navigating what some people call “failure to launch” — feeling stuck, directionless, or behind. That’s not a character flaw. It’s something we can work on together. Before becoming a therapist, I was a professional writer for 20 years. That background means I know how to listen to a story, and I believe your story about yourself has power. My sessions are free-form: I show up as a person, use mindfulness, ACT, narrative therapy, and CBT-I as needed, and challenge you with kindness, honesty, and humor.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Your story about yourself has power. I believe our stories can change; I’ve seen it in my own life as well as in the lives of the people I've worked with. I believe we're all capable of change and that you can do this, too. I’m just a compassionate helper here to listen and challenge you with respect for your dignity and worth. I'll use mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia to help you sleep well. But before I do anything, I think it's important to build trust, which I do through hearing your story. Want to learn more? I offer virtual sessions across North Carolina (Monday–Wednesday) and in-person in Asheville (Thursday–Friday). I’m in-network with Aetna, Optum, United, BCBS, and Medicare, and provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. Looking for a therapist takes courage. Let’s have a free 15-minute call and see if we’re a good fit.
